Take Leave or Leave It

Image
I always believe that in a year you should take atleast 1-2 big holidays and also few weekend trips. It gives you time to breath fresh air and get out of that monotonous life called 'work'. But organisations in India, especially if it's an Indian organisation, they will treat leave as Criminal offense. As if, we are the only one responsible for work and without us organisation - Can't work.

I have worked in 4 - 5 organisation and everywhere I have faced the same problem. The senior and people at higher level feel that we are not dedicated towards our work because we take leave for ourselves. I mean, why being so judgmental? Leave, whether it's paid or unpaid, it's the right of every employee and everyone can decide when they want to take it or not. Why supervisor and their bosses think that we are breaking some rule by taking leave. If your boss is taking it, it's ok as he/she worked so hard but you.. Nahhhh! It can't be done!

In abroad, leave is a rig…

Book Review: Guy on the Sidewalk

Image
'Guy on the sidewalk', as the name suggests, this book is about a guy name 'Jaywardhan' aka Jay living his life in the USA and still feels like outsider decide to take the drastic step, which many NRI talk about it but never do, of shifting back to India. The title and short description of the book sounded very interesting and I was totally inclined to read 'Guy on the sidewalk by Bharath Krishna. I somewhat felt the story as recently I shifted my base from one city to another and how you feel disconnected with the city and crave to be where your heart's desire.
The story starts with Jay spending his last 2 days in the USA and finally coming closer to his most daring step of shifting to India after spending 6 years in the country. All his NRI friends are saying their final farewell, but also contradicting on Jay's decision with their own opinion of their motherland - India. As Jay sits in his flight to India, he flashes back to all those 6 years in the USA -…

Job Insecurity

Image
I have been constantly hearing about the firing policy of most of the organisation. Many employees have been Asked To Leave (ATL) or fired by the organisation for various reasons. So many people are sitting unemployed and the number is just keeps on increasing. Also, those people who are still in the organisation, don't have any security about their job. Any day, organisation will walk to an employee and will inform him that he is no longer required by the organisation. One day you make good money and the next day, sitting at home unemployed. There is no stability, no security, no understanding, nothing! Employee are no longer treated as an asset to the organisation. They are more of a liability which they will get rid of anytime if it exceeds the limit.
How a person can know when he his turn to get fired will come? How a person can judge the time he will spend in a particular organisation? In sales kind of profile, if you aren't bringing sales in first 2-3 months, the chances …

Domino Effect!

Image
We have all played with domino and we know what happens when one domino fell.. All the other domino fell one after another. Such game also applies in life. You will realise that our life is also like domino. If one good or bad domino fell, other  one fell after another. Each thing in our life is interconnected and effect on one leads to effect on all.

The reason why there are so many self-help book, concept, philosophies and studies is because they all talk about balancing your domino in such a way that fall of one doesn't lead to fall of another one. To explain the logic, let's take an example. Mr. X is working in corporate firm and living with wife and parents. One fine day, he got a real bad shouting from office due to some mistake in work. This shouting lead to frustration and anger in Mr. X this means one domino fell. He brings this at home and when his wife ask or tell him something, he gets angry at his wife. Another domino fell. Wife is taken back by such anger and sho…

Voices in Our Life...!!!

Image
We all have that tiny voice in our head, which keeps interrupting our lives, especially when we are stuck somewhere. Many times this voice is created by people around us. The path we take, the choices we make are all because of the influence of others. There has never been a time when our decision was our own. Whether it is pursuing an education or work choice, these choices have always been the consequences of something happened in your life.
Do we ever make or choose something of our own? There have been movies, books, video.. All talk about only one thing, Listen to your heart! But does it ever make noise? Does it ever make it possible for us to know? That is because there is never a heart which makes the decision. It has always been our head who does the work. Some dude in some ages has created a story about heart, saying the right and brain conflicting it, but the reality is it is all created by our own brain only. The heart is a creation of our own mind. Our mind has always been …

Easy to Give Up, Hard to Continue

Image
Being in no target oriented job, I never realise what it means to achieve sales figure or target. A recent entry to sales make me realise that it's is indeed a big achievement to get closer to your target. Being non sales person, I don't take pressure of achieving target or getting prospective customers. I see people around me and I see people struggling hard to get prospects and business.
1 week went - no prospect, 2 weeks went - no prospect. 1 month went - no prospect. Suddenly we are hit with the fact that it's not working. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not sounding good? Am I calling wrong people? We keep on wondering what is the thing which we are doing wrong that we can improve it and get prospective customers. We consult, we talk, we do research, we study, we do everything possible and still 1 week went - no prospect.
Nothing happens. No increase in numbers, no positive outcome.. This leads to conclusion that we are not good. We should give up. It's not your …

Book Review: Dork – The Incredible Adventures of Robin 'Einstein' Varghese (TIAOREV)

Image
So there is American version of ‘Dork Diaries’ which involve Wimpy Kid and there is Indian version of ‘Dork’ created by Sidin Vadukut. The earlier one is for kids and later is for adult. But when it comes to story and humour, I think Indian Dork is far behind the American Dork. I picked up this book from a family friend and thought, ‘After disappointing books by many Indian Author (especially those who are pass out from IIM & IIT’s) let’s give Sidin Vadukut a chance to impress. I was not aware of his status as a blog writer and neither his background. But after 2 pages into the story and I knew he must be IIM or IIT grad. I must say Indian education board needs to add an extra campus course in these colleges about ‘Book Writing’ & ‘Story Development’.
Dork TIAOREV (Too big name to write) is yet another boring story of Robin ‘Einstein’ (dunno why  in the hell he is named Einstein with no story or connection to the name or character) Varghese, an average MBA cum engineering stud…

Reach for the star or adjust in the sky?

Image
As I entered professional life, I started aiming for the universe. It is said that aim for the stars, maybe you will end up being in the sky. But when we start working, we not just aim for the stars, but we try and reach sun, the star which is furthest from earth. There is no question that we all want to be successful, we all want big salary package or we all want to be head of department or company. We want something which can define our professional life. No one will say that I am happy being manager, or happy working under CEO. To have this hunger, there is nothing wrong in it but is it completely right also?
We all don’t reach the top; if that was the case then everyone would be CEO or Head of department. Only few reaches there, few hang in the middle and few leave it in the hands of god. When I started my career, I wanted to be in another industry and not in the industry I was working. When I got another job, it was an industry I never planned to go in. after another switch I got …

Yet Another Step..

Image
Life is ever changing. Each day we think of taking new step ahead or we take back the step we took before. Each moment of life, we analysed, we get happy or we get sad, we relish or we regret. Every moment of our life is a step, whether it's taking up new job, joining a college, getting married or buying a house.. all this is a step taken ahead in your life.

At the same time, there are few steps which we wish to take back. Divorce, Leaving a job, staying in a particular city and so on. It is said that life moves on, if one day is bad doesn't mean whole life is bad.. but when you are in dark all you see is darkness. If a person losses his/her job, they wont see this as an opportunity to do something else. If a person gets another job, he will think that it is a new step but that job might worth taking.

Step towards happiness are memorable step in our life. All those happy moments.. falling in love, finding a friends, time spent with family.. all these steps brings a new spark …
