A Letter to Life - #DearZindagi

Image
Dear Zindagi,
So many thoughts come to my mind when I look at my life, when I look at moments which we have created, the sadness we have gone through, the joy of achievement and also regret of the past. Every year I keep thinking I am still young and every birthday is a reminder that I am growing faster. The moments pass by and we feel as if we are in a trance.
This letter is not to reflect what could have been, neither it is to talk about the roller coaster ride we had. This letter is to tell you, dear life, that you have been an amazing partner (though we may have few fights), a strict teacher (though I hated your class), a supporting boss (though we had our differences) and a silent listener (though you talked more sense). There are many instances where your twisted way of working has always intrigued me. This letter is to share what I have learned in this 20 something year we shared together (Yes, I will still not agree on the exact number).
This life, this partner is given to ever…

Job Insecurity

Image
I have been constantly hearing about the firing policy of most of the organisation. Many employees have been Asked To Leave (ATL) or fired by the organisation for various reasons. So many people are sitting unemployed and the number is just keeps on increasing. Also, those people who are still in the organisation, don't have any security about their job. Any day, organisation will walk to an employee and will inform him that he is no longer required by the organisation. One day you make good money and the next day, sitting at home unemployed. There is no stability, no security, no understanding, nothing! Employee are no longer treated as an asset to the organisation. They are more of a liability which they will get rid of anytime if it exceeds the limit.
How a person can know when he his turn to get fired will come? How a person can judge the time he will spend in a particular organisation? In sales kind of profile, if you aren't bringing sales in first 2-3 months, the chances …

Gone beyond Gone…

My latest book obsession is Maze Runner by James Dashner and the way he has built the character of Newt who is just a teenager with quality of good leader but at the same time being everyone’s friend. This character has just brought a different perspective and made me think of him as my spirit animal that just guide me and help me with my normal daily life.
The character has nothing great or super power. He was second in command boy with a lot of calmness, knowledge and understanding. He managed people nicely and never shown anger or command to get his work done. In the book, the character is infected with a disease called Flare, which eats your brain and make you go crazy. This crazy is not mental crazy. This crazy is when a person doesn’t know what he is doing, he becomes animal who can do anything, also eat human if he is hungry. Flare starts catching up to Newt and slowly he becomes a different person who struggles a lot to hold on to his sanity. He puts an effort to be calm and re…

Domino Effect!

Image
We have all played with domino and we know what happens when one domino fell.. All the other domino fell one after another. Such game also applies in life. You will realise that our life is also like domino. If one good or bad domino fell, other  one fell after another. Each thing in our life is interconnected and effect on one leads to effect on all.

The reason why there are so many self-help book, concept, philosophies and studies is because they all talk about balancing your domino in such a way that fall of one doesn't lead to fall of another one. To explain the logic, let's take an example. Mr. X is working in corporate firm and living with wife and parents. One fine day, he got a real bad shouting from office due to some mistake in work. This shouting lead to frustration and anger in Mr. X this means one domino fell. He brings this at home and when his wife ask or tell him something, he gets angry at his wife. Another domino fell. Wife is taken back by such anger and sho…

Voices in Our Life...!!!

Image
We all have that tiny voice in our head, which keeps interrupting our lives, especially when we are stuck somewhere. Many times this voice is created by people around us. The path we take, the choices we make are all because of the influence of others. There has never been a time when our decision was our own. Whether it is pursuing an education or work choice, these choices have always been the consequences of something happened in your life.
Do we ever make or choose something of our own? There have been movies, books, video.. All talk about only one thing, Listen to your heart! But does it ever make noise? Does it ever make it possible for us to know? That is because there is never a heart which makes the decision. It has always been our head who does the work. Some dude in some ages has created a story about heart, saying the right and brain conflicting it, but the reality is it is all created by our own brain only. The heart is a creation of our own mind. Our mind has always been …

Used to Being Poor

Image
When I was recently travelling in the outstation train, I had a different kind of experience. I observed the type of people travelling in the train and also their attitude. Many a time I see beggar and I wonder..
Some people enter into train without any ticket or tickets which are not confirmed, and take a seat which are available/empty. Basically, they hop from one seat to another till someone claims them. In night when you are sleeping, these people occupy small place next to your legs and sit there throughout the journey. As a generous human being you might allow them to sit - thinking they don't have any place to sit - but is it justified? We pay full amount for those seats and give half to someone who didn't pay single amount for those? We always believe in helping the unfortunate but are those people really the deserving one? Some of those people travel like this all the time whether it is an emergency or general travelling. For them it is a way of saving money and using…

What is Right or Wrong?

Image
What's right? What's wrong? How do you know that the wrong is right and right is wrong? Right and wrong might be explained in dictionary in simple terms but in real life, it takes us ages to know what is right and what is wrong.
What you think is right but for me that can be wrong. ‘Nature & Nurture’ is what separate us in our thoughts. However, our definition of right & wrong is beyond this. It is formed, molded, developed and changed by everything small or big thing happening in our life. Tiniest part of our daily life affects our definition. Hence, what I think right today can also be wrong tomorrow.
Now question comes, if it's so uncertain and fluctuating, does it this definition matter to anybody? Or even to us? Simple answer is yes, it does! If we don't differentiate between rights or wrongs we will keep on doing what's in our mind. The necessity of creation of gods, idols, rules, regulations is so that we, human being, does not run around like headles…

Perfect World

Image
It is said that we do or what we believe is either told or taught to us, but is it always true or perfect? We all are raised by different people, we all follow different philosophy, we all believe different things, then why we think that what we know is the perfect or right ? What we are or who we are is by nature and nurture, what other’s are is according to their value and belief. Then the question comes to mind, 'What is true or perfect way?'
If we see an act, everyone will react to it in various ways. Some may like it; some may believe it and some will not. Our reactions will be different to others reaction at times. Even twins are not similar; when they have been give birth together by same person. Similarly how can we expect other people to be like us who are not even our twin, a complete stranger? Our view and our idea are not always right or wrong. What we believe or not, doesn’t mean others should also follow the same philosophy because we think its right.
Why it is di…

Depression - Serial Killer of Life

Image
Few months back, I heard the devastating news that one of my favorite comedian, Robin William died rather killed himself. He was found dead in his apartment. Yet another star who took his life and reason for such suicide attempt?.... Depression!
A successful person, world renowned comedian, humanitarian, established actor, a person who has best of the world, gets chance to work with best of industry people; a person who brought smile and laughter to millions of people, couldn't bring smile and happiness to his own. He publicly stated that he is fighting excessive drinking and drug abuse but noone knew that he was also fighting depression, the serial killer who works behind the curtain and takes life of anyone - successful or poor person.
It was indeed shocking for me to hear that how a person who appears to be so happy and fulfilled with his life is going through depression. What he felt was not enough in his life? Or what was bringing no satisfaction to his work? Even after having…

Lack of professionalism

Image
Sometime when you visit developed country, you realise how far away is your country. The system, the level of professionalism just impress you. Here, in india, I shouldn't say these out of patriotism but as a consumer, I am being consumed by companies and association.
Corruption does eat a country but unprofessionalism makes it worst to work around. While writing this blog, I am fighting with 2 companies for my rights: one where fraud company robbed people of their right and money (me being one of those people) and second where company is charging me with extra money for nothing. After arguing, fighting, discussing endlessly, there is no conclusion.
I am personally sick of Indian companies and their attitude. They think that it's easy to fool people and do whatever they wish to do. Sadly due to lack of strong law and enforcement, companies are openly doing fraud and cheating. A consumer in USA gets millions of dollar because coffee was too hot and in India, consumer ends up pay…

Marriage - All Glitter and No Gold

Image
We all at some point want to get married or actually get married but post marriage effect sometime affect us more than marriage process. I was talking to my friend who recently had arrange marriage and he was bit disappointed with life after marriage. He was wondering whether he should have gone with love marriage than arrange. Known devil is safer than unknown one. But does it make any difference whom you marry is known person or no? It doesn't! Because at the end of the day, marriage is all about ‘adjustment’!
In love marriage, even though you know the person, staying with them under one roof is different ball game altogether. Either it's arranged or love, formula of good relation lies in adjusting and accepting. Most of the time, problems in relation arise due to expectations. We want other to be like us or do things we like. Why enforce our likes and dislikes on others? Why can't we live with the fact that other is not me?
We always look for perfect person, perfect rel…

Time: Every second counts!

Image
Despite having 'N' number of watches in my cupboard when I need one, none of them works. Time – such a precious thing and we waste it every day of our life. We are under illusion that we have lots of time whereas in reality we don’t know how much time we have. We delay, we procrastinate, we forget but time goes on and on and on. Suddenly we realize we have not just lost the time but we also lost the opportunities.
What an irony that we acquire various gadgets or watches to show us the right time but we don’t know when is the right time. We have taken time for granted and we realize the value when it is lost. Acquiring watches will not give me the time neither it will tell me that right time of my actions. It’s our instinct, our senses which tells us the right time. Often we ignore what we feel or what our instinct tell us because we are too much deluded by our surroundings. We are people who get easily influenced, easily made to believe. Brands and Advertiser’s take this fee…

You say am Failure, I say am Survivor

Image
Often in life we think we are failure especially when we don't achieve what we aimed for. Many of us will take it positively and say if not this time surely next time whereas others will be depressed by their failure and they will be stuck in this black hole where they will start believing that they are failure. Obviously that is an extreme case.
Failure starts with us believing that we have failed. Once we get failure then another, eventually we will be stuck like those old radios on same odd frequency. Till the time we don't tune the right frequency we will get that disturbing sound. The key to get over failure is by starting to think as ‘survivor’. Rather than saying I am a failure, why not say I am survivor. When I use word 'Say' doesn't mean it's literal sense. See yourself as survivor; believe yourself as survivor, act like a survivor and react like a survivor.
Human's have that distinct sense of survival. We don't give up easily and that is in our…

Lost a way in Pretending

Image
The way we act, things we like, things we do, our wants, our need.. is it what we are? or is it made by the person who we are pretending to be? You must be thinking, I am not pretending, it is who i am. But when you look back on things you did or way you behaved, it is all part of pretending to be ‘you’. When we were kids, our parents told us to play less and study more and we pretended to do so for our parent’s sake. I am not saying it’s wrong but we did because someone told us to do so. And now we are here pretending to be perfect kid to parent, perfect partner to your loved one, perfect parent for your children. We are in constant race of being perfect and in that race we start pretending to be who we are, when in reality we are nowhere close to be who we are.

We are always in search of happiness, success or just people. This search makes us empty inside and to fill this emptiness we take up something else. We chase money and end up being in job which we don’t like but in the end w…

Faces of Darkness

Image
We all have dark side; some might show it, some will hide it with what appears to be pretty side. But what this darkness is? What this darkness is all about? I came across this thought when I saw the episode of a high school series name ‘One Tree Hill’. The show is about high school and different types of people living their life. This particular episode is about a boy who is treated as nothing in the school. He is neither acknowledged nor been part of any group. He is no one in high school and he gets tired of being treated like this. He quotes, “It always hurts and hurts every single day.” In four year of high school, very few people actually spoke to him. He took many anti-depressant tablets and didn’t come to school for 2 weeks and no one realised. This episode is one of the finest episode and it makes us wonder about our past life in school/college.
When I look back or even now, I can associate with the character of the boy. Many of us go through a phase where either we are popula…

Don’t hold the dream tight, just chase it!

Image
When I was child I dreamt of being Airhostess.  When I was in college, I dreamt of being Fashion Designer. When I did my post graduation, I dreamt of being Brand Manager. Almost 4 year after my post graduation and I am jobless sitting at home thinking, ‘What was wrong with my dream that it never got fulfilled?’
Successful people who have made big in their respective stream say that ‘they always dreamt of this and now their dream is turned into reality’. Hardly anyone said that it is by chance that they end up with this or they thought of doing this and now their dream is true. So what is the deal? Was it their dream and they chased it to be true? Or was it is just by chance they tried and they got lucky?
Very vague dream everyone have in life is to earn money, lot of it. Well! It is not a dream, it is a want. So if this is want then what is the dream? Dream is a cherished desire, a desire to be something you are not currently. So earning money is not dream. Dream can be to be greatest…

Yet Another Step..

Image
Life is ever changing. Each day we think of taking new step ahead or we take back the step we took before. Each moment of life, we analysed, we get happy or we get sad, we relish or we regret. Every moment of our life is a step, whether it's taking up new job, joining a college, getting married or buying a house.. all this is a step taken ahead in your life.

At the same time, there are few steps which we wish to take back. Divorce, Leaving a job, staying in a particular city and so on. It is said that life moves on, if one day is bad doesn't mean whole life is bad.. but when you are in dark all you see is darkness. If a person losses his/her job, they wont see this as an opportunity to do something else. If a person gets another job, he will think that it is a new step but that job might worth taking.

Step towards happiness are memorable step in our life. All those happy moments.. falling in love, finding a friends, time spent with family.. all these steps brings a new spark …

Book Review: To Kill Mocking-Bird

Image
Kill myth with ‘To kill Mocking-Bird’

I heard a lot about book ‘To Kill Mocking-Bird’ by Harper Lee especially in American TV shows where school going kids had assignment on this book and I wonder what this book is all about. Next day I go to book store and buy this book. As I started reading, I found it very normal. Story is about 2 siblings, Scout and Jem who lives in Southern town of States with their father Atticus (lawyer) and maid Culpuria. The book talks about their daily life and events took place in town of Maycomb City.
The stories go smoothly as Scout and Jem spend their time playing in backyard, go to school, talk to their neighbours or create conspiracy theory about next door boy Arthur Radley aka Boo Radley. The real fun of the book comes when Atticus Finch takes the rape case of black boy Tom Robinson against white girl Mayella Ewell. The book highlights on the fact that during 1960’s when the book was written there was still racism in the town. How skin colour distingui…
