Book Review: An Ode to Life

Image
I am not a poem reader except when I come across something from a friend or social media. When Mr. Tajammul Kothari shared his collection of poems in a book ' An Ode to Life ', I was more than happy to read and share my experience with all. Poems might look like a simple way to convey the message, but as simple as the craft looks, it is really difficult to draft the emotions. An Ode to Life is collection of poem taking through a person's life from birth to death. It covers various emotions from being parents to ashes to also love and heartbreaks. The journey called life passes through various phases and the book talks about all those phases.  You feel connected with many of the poems in the book as every one of us have experienced that phase or seen someone going through it. The happiness of seeing your child or waiting for your loved one. The book also touches the various phase of our life which is less talked about - Death. A goodbye to life, reflecting over w

Book Review: Maze Runner Series

Image
There was once a movie name Maze Runner and I loved that movie. Later, after reading more about it, I came to know that it is based on the book. Still, my intention to read the book was not much. I waited for second movie Scorch Trial to release. I saw the movie, but got confused with the story, I did Wikipedia on the book and got all the more confused. Finally, I decided to take the matter in my hand and read the whole Maze Runner series by James Dashner. The series contains 3 main books - Maze Runner, Scorch Trial and Death Cure . There is 4th book which is prequel to Maze Runner - Kill Order. The book is any day much better than movie as it explains the entire concept in detail, emphasizing on character's quality, sharing their emotions and change in attitude as the entire plot develops in 3 books.  Warning: This review can be spoiler for you if you have not read the book.  Maze Runner The story in all three is narrated by the main character - Thomas . He is trans

Noise

Image
Noise, a simple word, means simple, but for a person going through depression and frustration, noise is that extra sound which keeps coming back in your ears, again, again and again. This noise is not a word of wisdom, neither a noise of support. This noise is the sound of cribbing, torture and anger.  And to stop it from happening, you have that feeling of breaking away. That urge to break away from things or just break away from all those who are holding us. That need to be away from this noise, away from people, away from stuff and away from constant nagging of people. Is this feeling associated with frustration? Or is it disappointment in life? Or is it fear which haunts you and you feel to be away from that? Or as simple as anger.  A feeling of destroying is indeed a dangerous feeling as you lose control over your mind and action takes over. These actions can hurt someone or yourself, still we don't care because at that moment you are not worried about the consequenc

Better Tomorrow !

The girls have some connection with their hair. Some grow them long, whereas others keep it short. As a child, I have always kept my hair short because I hated plait. Short hair means you can keep it open forever. Once I came to college, I started growing my hair, but till medium long as I felt that long hair is big maintenance. For the last 23 years, I craved for long hair. Wanted to see how I will look if I grow my hair. Being an experimental personality, I crave for change and never ever stick to one thing for a long time.  So I started growing my hair, cutting my hair and growing again till I reach a length beyond which my hair never grew. It wasn't even that long still for me that was the longest and I crave for more long one. It never happened. I had thin hair and after growing it became thinner. I had coloured my hair so the tips were of faded color. Though I had a decent length, I never had healthy hair. Sometime it looked good, sometimes it felt dried out. The m

Take Leave or Leave It

Image
I always believe that in a year you should take atleast 1-2 big holidays and also few weekend trips. It gives you time to breath fresh air and get out of that monotonous life called 'work'. But organisations in India, especially if it's an Indian organisation, they will treat leave as Criminal offense. As if, we are the only one responsible for work and without us organisation - Can't work. I have worked in 4 - 5 organisation and everywhere I have faced the same problem. The senior and people at higher level feel that we are not dedicated towards our work because we take leave for ourselves. I mean, why being so judgmental? Leave, whether it's paid or unpaid, it's the right of every employee and everyone can decide when they want to take it or not. Why supervisor and their bosses think that we are breaking some rule by taking leave. If your boss is taking it, it's ok as he/she worked so hard but you.. Nahhhh! It can't be done! In abroad,

Book Review: Maximum City

Image
Mumbai, a city which never sleeps, a city of dreams, a city of lights and fast life. Mumbai, earlier called Bombay, has many names. This city has attracted people from all parts of India to come and change their life. But does their life improved from that of in the village or they created a different world of their own. Being born and bought up in Mumbai, never thought how the life will be for people who come from villages or other part of India. Also the two categories of people, lower and middle class, whose life has many ups and down, middle class people (like me) don't know what it is like to be in their shoes.  For me, Mumbai was a place where I grew up, many things in the city were normal to me. People who grew up in other cities, saw a different side of Mumbai and came here to chase their dreams. From 1990's till 2000, Mumbai as a city has experience best and worst, from Bomb blast to the emergence of don, from the rise of Marathi community to fight between Hindu

Book Review: Guy on the Sidewalk

Image
'Guy on the sidewalk', as the name suggests, this book is about a guy name 'Jaywardhan' aka Jay living his life in the USA and still feels like outsider decide to take the drastic step, which many NRI talk about it but never do, of shifting back to India. The title and short description of the book sounded very interesting and I was totally inclined to read 'Guy on the sidewalk by Bharath Krishna. I somewhat felt the story as recently I shifted my base from one city to another and how you feel disconnected with the city and crave to be where your heart's desire. The story starts with Jay spending his last 2 days in the USA and finally coming closer to his most daring step of shifting to India after spending 6 years in the country. All his NRI friends are saying their final farewell, but also contradicting on Jay's decision with their own opinion of their motherland - India. As Jay sits in his flight to India, he flashes back to all those 6 years in the

Gone beyond Gone…

My latest book obsession is Maze Runner by J ames Dashner  and the way he has built the character of Newt who is just a teenager with quality of good leader but at the same time being everyone’s friend. This character has just brought a different perspective and made me think of him as my spirit animal that just guide me and help me with my normal daily life. Newt played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster in the Maze Runner movie The character has nothing great or super power. He was second in command boy with a lot of calmness, knowledge and understanding. He managed people nicely and never shown anger or command to get his work done. In the book, the character is infected with a disease called Flare, which eats your brain and make you go crazy. This crazy is not mental crazy. This crazy is when a person doesn’t know what he is doing, he becomes animal who can do anything, also eat human if he is hungry. Flare starts catching up to Newt and slowly he becomes a different person who s

Depression - Serial Killer of Life

Image
Few months back, I heard the devastating news that one of my favorite comedian, Robin William died rather killed himself. He was found dead in his apartment. Yet another star who took his life and reason for such suicide attempt?.... Depression!   A successful person, world renowned comedian, humanitarian, established actor, a person who has best of the world, gets chance to work with best of industry people; a person who brought smile and laughter to millions of people, couldn't bring smile and happiness to his own. He publicly stated that he is fighting excessive drinking and drug abuse but noone knew that he was also fighting depression, the serial killer who works behind the curtain and takes life of anyone - successful or poor person.  It was indeed shocking for me to hear that how a person who appears to be so happy and fulfilled with his life is going through depression. What he felt was not enough in his life? Or what was bringing no satisfaction to his work? Even

Time: Every second counts!

Image
Despite having 'N' number of watches in my cupboard when I need one, none of them works. Time – such a precious thing and we waste it every day of our life. We are under illusion that we have lots of time whereas in reality we don’t know how much time we have. We delay, we procrastinate, we forget but time goes on and on and on. Suddenly we realize we have not just lost the time but we also lost the opportunities.    What an irony that we acquire various gadgets or watches to show us the right time but we don’t know when is the right time. We have taken time for granted and we realize the value when it is lost. Acquiring watches will not give me the time neither it will tell me that right time of my actions. It’s our instinct, our senses which tells us the right time. Often we ignore what we feel or what our instinct tell us because we are too much deluded by our surroundings. We are people who get easily influenced, easily made to believe. Brands and Advertiser’s take t

You say am Failure, I say am Survivor

Image
Often in life we think we are failure especially when we don't achieve what we aimed for. Many of us will take it positively and say if not this time surely next time whereas others will be depressed by their failure and they will be stuck in this black hole where they will start believing that they are failure. Obviously that is an extreme case. Failure starts with us believing that we have failed. Once we get failure then another, eventually we will be stuck like those old radios on same odd frequency. Till the time we don't tune the right frequency we will get that disturbing sound. The key to get over failure is by starting to think as ‘survivor’. Rather than saying I am a failure, why not say I am survivor. When I use word 'Say' doesn't mean it's literal sense. See yourself as survivor; believe yourself as survivor, act like a survivor and react like a survivor. Human's have that distinct sense of survival. We don't give up easily and that

Lost a way in Pretending

Image
The way we act, things we like, things we do, our wants, our need.. is it what we are? or is it made by the person who we are pretending to be? You must be thinking, I am not pretending, it is who i am. But when you look back on things you did or way you behaved, it is all part of pretending to be ‘you’. When we were kids, our parents told us to play less and study more and we pretended to do so for our parent’s sake. I am not saying it’s wrong but we did because someone told us to do so. And now we are here pretending to be perfect kid to parent, perfect partner to your loved one, perfect parent for your children. We are in constant race of being perfect and in that race we start pretending to be who we are, when in reality we are nowhere close to be who we are. We are always in search of happiness, success or just people. This search makes us empty inside and to fill this emptiness we take up something else. We chase money and end up being in job which we don’t like but in the

Light at the end of the tunnel

Image
When I am writing this blog, personally I am in the dark tunnel of my life and I am search of that light which will tell me that the tunnel is ending. We all go through a phase where everything is just not right and things are going bad. In my case, I am going through bad health problems, career is in danger, missing out on my passion and my most prized possession is destroyed. And now I am wondering what else can go bad? What is a thing in my life which is in danger now? In such phase the one question we ask everyone, even god is ‘Why me?’ and I asked the same question. Normally I have answer to my own question but this time I am clueless. I asked this question and then I looked around and I realised, it’s not only me who is asking that question. Many of us are bound to be in this tunnel and we wonder why me? Everyone of us experience a down side in life, a person sitting at home jobless for 9 months, a person is looking for partner for marriage and unable to find since 5

Don’t take it for GRANTED!

Image
So many things in our life, we take it for granted till the time we realise how important it is. I came to this realisation when I took my health for granted and it hit me back at the wrong time. Result – I am missing the thing I love the most. So while sitting at home doing nothing and missing on big fun, I saw that so many of us do this. We take things for granted, we take people for granted, we take their emotions for granted and what not. In our journey called life, we have started talking it lightly and made it complicated. When we can’t solve these complications created by us, we think of ending it. I have heard of cases where people have taken their life for granted and ended it because of something or someone. A happy going guy suddenly jumps from his room on 11 th floor; a struggling actress ends her life by hanging herself. I try and try but fail to understand, how one can take their life for granted and decides to end it? Do they think of consequences, do they think
