Book Review: Six Degrees Game of Blogs

So I have been part of BlogAdda website and it is a great platform for bloggers to participate in various activities and also to share their blog with other bloggers. They had run a contest where a team of 10 bloggers was created and each team was given the same set of 6 characters with their profession around which they will have to create the story and write a book. Six Degrees Game of Blogs is a collection of 3 stories out of thousands of entries they received.

Before I talk about three stories, let's take a look at 6 main characters around which story is framed: 
Shekhar Dutta - Stay at home dad who does freelance writing in Mumbai and take care of his daughter Roohi. Married to Tara. 
Tara Dutta - Successful media person and too busy to give time to family, especially Shekhar and her daughter, Roohi.
Roohi Dutta - 6 Year old daughter of Shekhar and Tara.

Book review: A Time to Kill

I have heard a lot about John Grisham but never read his books. So after lot of waiting, I finally picked up one of his book name ‘A Time to Kill’. Set in early 1980’s in Clonton town in Ford County, Mississippi, a black man name Carl Lee Hailey is convicted for murdering 2 white boys for raping his daughter.

Two white boys kidnapped Taniya Hailey, a 10 year old black girl and gang raped her, abused her, beaten her and tried to kill her. In an attempt to kill her, she was found by workers and admitted into hospital. The county sheriff who is black find these two boys and they are put into trial. As the date of trial comes near, the father of the girl, Carl Lee Hailey carefully plan and kill those white boys in the court room. Carl Lee Hailey is convicted and he hire Jake Brigance, a young lawyer who practice law in the office provided by his retired but rich senior Lucien Wilbanks, to fight his case. Easy to Give Up, Hard to Continue

Being in no target oriented job, I never realise what it means to achieve sales figure or target. A recent entry to sales make me realise that it's is indeed a big achievement to get closer to your target. Being non sales person, I don't take pressure of achieving target or getting prospective customers. I see people around me and I see people struggling hard to get prospects and business. 
1 week went - no prospect, 2 weeks went - no prospect. 1 month went - no prospect. Suddenly we are hit with the fact that it's not working. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not sounding good? Am I calling wrong people? We keep on wondering what is the thing which we are doing wrong that we can improve it and get prospective customers. We consult, we talk, we do research, we study, we do everything possible and still 1 week went - no prospect. 
Nothing happens. No increase in numbers, no positive outcome.. This leads to conclusion that we are not good. We should give up. It's not your …

Book Review: Connect the Dots

Connect the Dots ..  Chance to connect to different stories

What you do when you are jobless sitting at home, thinking, what next? How about starting a business? Or shall I look for interesting job? With these thoughts in mind, I read ‘Connect the Dots’ by Rashmi Bansal, the author who wrote famous book ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’. Though I haven’t read her earlier book, I was inquisitive to read this book. The book showcase 20 inspiring stories of people who are successful in their respective business without having any format training in business.
The stories are divided into 3 sections, Jugaad, Junoon and Zubaan. These stories include businesses like Su-kam, Reva – Electric Car, Haathichaan paper, Tantra T-shirts, Shakti Sudha and so on. The author has interviewed the entrepreneurs and briefly mentioned their success story of the business and their struggle.
